Antigua Waits Patiently On US Online Gambling Judgment Response
Antigua is, and has been waiting patiently for the US to respond to the online gambling judgment that was awarded 12 years ago. Back when the introduction of the 2006 law was introduced banning all offshore online gambling in the USA, Antigua began to suffer from adverse reactions from the actions of the USA.
Here it is 12 years after the World Trade Organization judgment was made and Antigua hasn’t seen a dime of what is owed. Antigua has had enough with the promises to pay the owed debt that Antigua’s Governor-General is planning on collecting the judgment in the form of abolished intellectual property rights. The World Trade Organization’s judgment has grown to a quarter billion dollars with added interest.
Antigua’s Governor-General addressed the conflict saying-
“It was my Government’s view that a settlement would have been achieved before the Obama Administration demitted office on January 20, 2017. That date will soon pass. Consequently, it is the intention of my Government to apply the remedies permitted by the WTO. It is my Government’s intention to proceed to Parliament to adopt legislation consistent with the WTO ruling, allowing Antigua and Barbuda to nullify US copyright protections and to benefit from so doing. The USA is a very powerful and wealthy state, capable of inflicting harm. My Government believes that the new administration that is about to take office will recognize the lawfulness and justness of our actions and will quickly settle the differences that have kept our negotiators apart. The USA would not turn to intimidation and revenge.”
