Yahoo Poker Room to Close December 31st, with Perhaps a Future Release is in the Works
Well, Yahoo’s online poker room didn’t stay open long. It was only launched about a month ago and is already closing by the end of December according to the webpage. When Yahoo launched its poker product many experts thought it was only created with the hope of launching real money play with intentions of applying for gaming licenses in states where it was already legalized.
Yahoo didn’t go into detail about the closing, but are still open to the possibility of launching a poker room in the future. Yahoo’s Games Help page discloses that a new series of online games is being worked on with hopes of launching soon. Maybe the poker room will be back before we know it.
Yahoo did display a security message claiming that “changes in supporting technologies and increased security requirements for our Yahoo web pages” having rendered the game “incompatible, insecure, and no longer functioning correctly.” If this is the case, it makes little sense since Yahoo is the biggest web portal and search engines in the world and have all means to address security issues.
No real prizes were being won with the game, only virtual chips. Time will only tell if they decide to launch the poker room back open and if, maybe, just maybe it will be available for real money play in the four states that offer online gambling.
