Just a few short weeks back we reported on the fact that COPA – the California Online Poker Association had entered into a strategic partnership with Playtech and Sciplay in June of 2011. The aim of the game at this point in time was to get involved in a joint venture partnership and offer USA poker players a website which featured play-for-fun online poker. This free online poker site has been launched and they have called it CalShark.com. The JV also seems to be really excited about this new US online poker offering.
CalShark.com allows players the opportunity to play games such as Texas Hold ’em, and Omaha in a tournament, ring game and Sit and Go setting. It boasts some remarkable features, and one in particular that no other online poker website can boast of. This is the ability to play poker in either a Flash through their browser or on a Download version. Till now all versions of poker online have only been available in download versions.
The system allows players to interact with other player, which is what online poker is all about; this keeps players engaged and they earn chips as well as move up through loyalty levels, based upon how much they play. Users may invite friends to join in the fun and games, as well as add new friends, and this allows for a future transition to Facebook when this application is launched.
Both Flash and download versions feature realistic table settings, sharp graphic design and all the sights and sounds required of an interactive online poker product. There is a Spanish language option, and one can only assume that the COPA, Playtech and Scientific Games partnership are gearing themselves for a legalized online gambling scenario. There are two online gaming bills currently before the California legislature however, both face stiff opposition. An objective proposal for intrastate gambling is expected sometime in 2012.Written by Neha A
