First iGaming Blacklist Published by Switzerland’s Gambling Regulator
The first iGaming blacklist has been published by the Switzerland’s gambling regulator, Eidgenössische Spielbankenkommission (ESBK). ESBK published its list of operators and companies not allowed to operate in the country right after the Inter-Cantonal Lotteries and Betting Commission did. The blacklist implementation comes after the country implemented the Federal Act on Real-Money Gaming, otherwise known as Geldspielgesetz. The Federal Act on Real-Money Gaming allows land-based casinos in the country to offer online casino games. There have been two casinos that have launched online offerings so far.
ESBK and Comlot was given the power to block internet service providers in the country that are trying to access gambling platforms. Article 86 of Geldspielgesetz explains that all platforms that are accessing the Switzerland market that are not licensed and using a DNS lock will be banned.
Comlot’s blacklist alone has 65 different domains which include multiple websites that are being operated by one company. The ESBK list has 39, but both lists include some of the same company and operator names. Among some of the names include bet365, Betclic Everest Group, Interwetten, Pinnacle and Unibet. Both, Comlot and ESBK stated there will without a doubt be more names added to the list.
