After Tracey Crouch Left Position Due to Budget Conflictions, Mims DAvis is Appointed New UK Sports Minister
A new UK Sports Minister was named after the current minister resigned last week. Mims Davies will take Tracey Crouch’s position and will be responsible for all sports gambling related matters. Tracey Crouch resigned last Friday after announcements were made about changes to the Budget and the maximum stake on all FOBTs. The changes made to FOBTs as well as the new higher rate for Remote Gaming Duty was announced by Chancellor Philip Hammond after last week’s meeting.
Mims Davies will be responsible for this section of the board for the next 12 months. Davies entered the Parliament back in 2015 when she first was appointed the Conservative MP for Eastleigh position. She was appointed to the Assistant Government Whip in January of this year and then to the role of Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Wales back in July. Davies holds several leading roles under her belt across the horse racing, gambling, national lottery and sports markets.
Tracey Crouch congratulated Davies on Twitter saying, “Congratulations Mims Davies! You’ll be brilliant and I know the fantastic team at the DCMS will look after you well. Enjoy!”
Davies responded with, “New challenges await, thank you Theresa May. A proud day – can’t wait to get started.”
