Oh glorious morn it’s once again Sunday and its time for CS Report’s Weekly Recap of Online Gambling News, Previews and Reviews!
So what a week eh?!
The good ole GOP made hardly unpredictable remarks in their position or should we say opposition towards online gambling under a heading of “Making The Internet Family-Friendly,” the GOP position states,
“Millions of Americans suffer from problem or pathological gambling that can destroy families. We support the prohibition of gambling over the Internet and call for reversal of the Justice Department’s decision distorting the formerly accepted meaning of the Wire Act that could open the door to Internet betting.”
Did you hear the gasp leave the room, that was probably the PPA’s disappointment once again as they were dealt yet another blow to the gut. Rich Muny, Vice President of Player Relations of Poker Players Alliance, stated on thePPA.org website, “It is unfortunate that the authors of the plank are at odds with many House Republicans who are leading the charge for licensed and regulated online poker, but it even worse that they are so out of touch with the actual voters.”
Muny continued by asking poker players to, “Let’s all be sure to do our part through Election Day to ensure that all lawmakers understand where the people are on this important issue.”
In other online poker relatable news, bwin and PartyGaming have been drawing fire since their merger has taken its toll on shareholders having failed to provide the expected returns. At the time what was to be hailed as the best thing since slice bread, statements from the company said the merger “created a clear market leader” and was “a defining moment, not just for bwin.party but for the industry as a whole.”
Several months later, the $1.27 billion market cap went down one-third the combined value of bwin and PartyGaming less than seven months after the merger was announced.
Bwin.party cautioned that gross daily revenue in July and August was down 11 per cent compared with the second quarter, bwin pointed blame partially on a delayed start to the German football league, this news however caused downward shift of Bwin.party shares, which closed 4.6 per cent lower at 94.1p.
Bwin Jim Ryan, co-chief executive stated, “We have to differentiate ourselves in this market and make sure we pick up our share and remain competitive.” “Poker is a key area of focus and we are determined to return it to growth through execution of a detailed plan that includes pooling our poker liquidity as well as repositioning our flagship PartyPoker brand. We expect both initiatives to have a positive impact on our performance, along with our recently launched FastForward Poker product.”
