Since the new legislation in France came into place, the largest online poker room in the world PokerStars announced that French players would no longer be able to access their accounts. France decided to limit their online gambling market to government-licensed foreign based online gambling sites on June 11th and PokerStars was on the waiting list to receive a license and did not know if they would actually get it.
However, one week later PokerStars was awarded a license that allows them to provide sportsbook betting and/or online poker sites in France. The poker room has now announced that they have reopened PokerStars.fr for cash games.
The poker room’s representatives announced that the site would start running cash games upon official publication of the French regulations for online poker, which was scheduled to happen yesterday. As of today, players can access their accounts on the French domain of the site.
Along with PokerStars, four other companies were granted licenses: Party Gaming, FriendBet, ChiliPoker and Partouche Gaming France SAS. These companies only received their licenses now because the French Government had to help them up on the June 11th date due to a complaint from the Government of Malta concerning the legislation.
