The UK Gambling Commission Looking to Strengthen the ID Check Policy
The UK Gambling Commission is looking to strengthen the ID Check Policy across the gambling industry. Their mission is to dedicate a crackdown on problem gambling and to gain some control with a stricter checking process of identifications. The UKGC proposes tighter regulations will help self-excluded gamblers to stay safe and out of harm’s way.
The UKGC also said there are many operators out there that try to shortcut the verification systems but will soon be required to follow the strict guidelines to help protect themselves and consumers. An investigation was initiated by the BBC. The investigation showed that bets and wagers could still be placed online by self-excluded bettors by simply changing their log-in details. After the results of the investigation was made public GamStop stepped in and expressed their concerns.
GamStop was introduced in April of last year. They have more than 50,000 registered users who reply on GamStop to keep them excluded from gambling activities. The CEO of GamStop confirmed that unfortunately the system isn’t a 100% effective and that with the nonworking technicalities it can be demoralized easily. The UKGC reported they are aware of the issues with the systems and are working quickly to fix all issues.
